POLYMERS-5B project aims to develop novel alternative bio-based polymers synthesized from bio-renewable monomers via Biocatalysis and Green Chemistry processes, generating new polymers like polyesters and polyamides with pendent functional groups, polyphenols and poly-furans, and others that mimic fossil-based polymers properties meeting the market requirements but also contributes to Circular and Bio-economy and sustainable processes (from environmental, economic and social perspectives) in the EU. Our important role in POLYMERS-5B is our expertise in miniemulsion polymerization and polymer science. Our institute has the state of the art techniques and analytical instruments for polymer synthesis and characterization. Polymerizations can be conducted via miniemulsion in water or buffer, which are considered non-toxic, cheap and environmentally and economically sound. Moreover, this in turn avoids organic solvents and make the process more sustainable.
