POLYMERS-5B at the 7th European Summer School on Industrial Biotechnology (ESSIB 2025) | 07-10.07.2025
What an inspiring four days in Toulouse! The POLYMERS-5B project was represented at the 7th European Summer School on Industrial Biotechnology (ESSIB 2025), held from 7 to 10 July 2025 at the Toulouse Biotechnology Institute (TBI). The event focused on the timely and highly relevant theme “Enzymes and Polymers in the Context of the Biocircular Economy.”
Hosted by TBI – Bio & Chemical Engineering, and featuring outstanding contributions from Prof. Isabelle André and Prof. Magali Remaud-Siméon, the summer school offered a rich scientific programme at the forefront of industrial biotechnology.
Lectures and discussions covered cutting-edge research topics, including PET degradation, PLA synthesis and degradation, enzyme engineering, and other innovative approaches supporting sustainable materials and processes.
During the event, Diogo Silva Serrano from IST-ID, Associação do Instituto Superior Técnico para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento, presented the poster entitled “Synthesis of biodegradable polymers for biomedical applications via biocatalysis and Green Chemistry processes.” The work was carried out within the framework of the European-funded POLYMERS-5B project, coordinated by Prof. Luis P. Fonseca. The poster session provided an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues, receive valuable feedback, and engage in discussions that will undoubtedly contribute to enhancing the quality and scope of future research activities.
Beyond its strong academic content, ESSIB 2025 stood out for its vibrant and collaborative atmosphere. Interactions with professors, researchers, and participants from diverse backgrounds fostered meaningful networking, scientific exchange, and a strong sense of community.
Overall, ESSIB 2025 was a truly enriching and memorable experience.
We warmly thank all organizers and participants for making this event so special, and we look forward to the next edition!
