Mikelis Kirpluks Presents Bio-based Vitrimer Research at GCNPM 2026 | 16.06.2026
Donostia – San Sebastián, Spain | June 16, 2026
Mikelis Kirpluks, senior researcher at the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC), presented an Oral Communication at the 12th Conference on Green Chemistry & Nanotechnologies in Polymeric Materials (GCNPM 2026), held on June 15–17, 2026 in Donostia – San Sebastián, Spain.
His talk, entitled “Bio-based β-amino polyester vitrimer-like networks with reprocessable thermoset performance“, shared the latest work-in-progress advances achieved within the POLYMERS-B project, focusing on a novel class of bio-based polymer networks designed to combine the high structural performance of traditional thermosets with the reprocessability characteristic of vitrimer materials.
Vitrimers are a cutting-edge category of dynamic covalent networks that can be reshaped, welded, or recycled upon heating — without dissolving or losing their cross-linked architecture. By designing these networks from bio-based building blocks, the POLYMERS-B team is advancing towards more sustainable, circular solutions for high-performance polymer materials.
GCNPM 2026 brought together leading scientists, researchers, and industry experts from across Europe and beyond to discuss the most recent advances in green chemistry and polymer science, with themes ranging from bio-based monomers to dynamic networks and sustainable nanotechnologies.
The participation of LSIWC in this international forum underlines the institute’s continued contribution to European research in sustainable materials and its active role within the POLYMERS-B consortium.
