BIOPOLY Cluster at Polymers 2026 | 8-10.04.2026
Advancing sustainable Polymers in Lisbon
From today and throughout the event, the BIOPOLY Cluster is participating in the Polymers 2026 Conference in Lisbon, one of the leading international forums dedicated to the latest advances in polymer science and engineering.
Organized by SETCOR, Polymers 2026 brings together researchers, industry leaders, and innovators from around the world to discuss cutting-edge developments in polymer chemistry, materials science, and sustainable technologies. The conference provides a key platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the promotion of innovative solutions addressing global challenges, including circularity and the transition to bio-based materials.
Within this prominent scientific context, the BIOPOLY Cluster is actively contributing to the discussion on sustainable polymers. We are pleased to highlight that the POLYMERS-5B project coordinator, Prof. Luís Joaquim Pina da Fonseca, is among the conference’s Keynote Speakers, reflecting the strong scientific and strategic relevance of the cluster’s work at the European level.
The cluster is also represented by Assunta Marrocchi, coordinator of the POLYMEER Project, who will present a poster showcasing BIOPOLY’s integrated approach to advancing biobased polymers derived from sustainable feedstocks.
By combining the expertise and activities of the POLYMEER Project, BIOPYRANIA EU Project, and POLYMERS-5B, the BIOPOLY Cluster aims to transform underutilized waste streams—such as brewers’ spent grain, agri-food residues, and woody biomass—into high-value, innovative materials suitable for real-world applications. This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to fostering circular economy models and reducing reliance on fossil-based resources.
The participation of the BIOPOLY Cluster in Polymers 2026 highlights the importance of cross-project collaboration in accelerating the development and uptake of sustainable polymer solutions, while strengthening the visibility and impact of EU-funded research initiatives in the global scientific community.
