POLYMERS-5B at BTechPro! 2026: Ralf and Mikelis in Sigulda

May 12, 2026

Ralf and Mikelis Kirpluks, senior researcher at the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC), attended the BTechPro! 2026 – International Conference for Young Scientists on Biorefinery Technologies and Products, held on May 6–8, 2026 in Sigulda, Latvia.

BTechPro! is a biannual conference organized by the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC), bringing together early-career researchers working on biomass processing and biorefinery technologies. The event offers a unique space for young scientists to present their work, receive peer feedback, attend plenary lectures and workshops, and build meaningful connections across research groups.

This edition was a special one for our group: Ralf successfully presented his research at an international conference for the first time. Stepping onto that stage for the first time is never easy — it takes preparation, courage, and resilience. We are truly proud of how he rose to the challenge.

Our senior researcher Mikelis was there alongside him, making this a shared experience and a strong representation of POLYMERS-5B on the international stage.

At POLYMERS-5B, we are committed to supporting young students not only in their scientific work, but at every step of their academic journey… because great science grows alongside great people.

Congratulations to both Ralf and Mikelis!

The role of Feedstock in Sustainable Bio-Based Products

February 23, 2026

What feedstock do we use, and how can we use it better? The transition to sustainable bio-based products starts with this crucial question! POLYMERS-5B is addressing this challenge by exploring alternative bio-renewable monomers derived from agri-food and wood-based feedstocks available in the EU. These include dicarboxylic acids, diamines, hydroxyacids, amino acids, fatty acids, aromatic and […]

Developing novel alternative of bio-based polymers synthesised from bio-renewable monomers.
