Introducing the BIOPOLY Cluster: driving the future of Sustainable Polymers

August 28, 2025

A new force is taking shape in the European research landscape: the BIOPOLY Cluster. This initiative unites three pioneering EU-funded projects, POLYMEER, BIOPYRANIA, and POLYMERS-5B, under one shared mission: accelerating innovation in sustainable, bio-based polymers.

A Collaborative Vision for Europe’s Bioeconomy

Born in alignment with the European Commission’s ambitions for collaboration through the Horizon Europe Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), the BIOPOLY Cluster is designed to go beyond individual project achievements. By creating synergies, fostering knowledge exchange, and amplifying collective impact, the cluster strengthens Europe’s path toward a more sustainable and circular materials future.

Shared Objectives

The BIOPOLY Cluster will serve as a catalyst for progress across the field of polymer science. Its core goals include:

  1. Exchanging best practices and insights, enabling faster learning, efficiency, and innovation across all member projects.
  2. Enhancing visibility and impact, through joint dissemination efforts, shared events, and cross-promotion on a European stage.
  3. Promoting sustainability and circularity, by advancing research into bio-based feedstocks, cutting-edge materials, and eco-friendly alternatives to fossil-based polymers.

A Dynamic Agenda

The cluster’s activities will be diverse and impactful, ranging from co-hosted webinars and shared conference sessions to joint communication campaigns and regular coordination meetings. With a spirit of openness and collaboration, the BIOPOLY Cluster also intends to welcome new partnerships with other EU-funded projects, expanding its influence and reinforcing Europe’s leadership in sustainable polymer innovation.

Looking Ahead

By joining forces, POLYMEER, BIOPYRANIA, and POLYMERS-5B are proving that the future of science lies in collaboration. The BIOPOLY Cluster will not only amplify the outcomes of its member projects but also accelerate the transition towards a more circular, bio-based, and resilient economy.

The message is clear: together, innovation grows stronger… and greener.
